Liberty County is a county in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 91,628.[1] The county seat is Liberty.[2] It was founded in 1831, as a municipality in Mexico as Villa de la Santísima Trinidad de la Libertad by commissioner José Francisco Madero and organized as a county of the Republic of Texas in 1836.[3][4][5] Its name was anglicized as Liberty based on the ideal of American liberty.[6]
