He served as a Republican member of the Michigan House of Representatives from 1999 to 2002 and a member of the state senate from 2003 to 2010. After leaving the state legislature, Allen served as a senior policy advisor for the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency, Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, State of Michigan.[1] He served as the Michigan state director for USDA Rural Development during the Trump administration.
Allen was a candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives from Michigan's 1st congressional district in 2010 and 2016, but lost the Republican primary both times.[2]
