Vesalius' De humani corporis fabrica, plate 164. Original scanned page from 1543 edition. Rotated 359 deg to repair tilt, plate crop, contrasted to 78. Minor touch up in mspaint to remove debris on scanned pg.
Plate 164 is described as "Drawing of the Bones of the Human Body, Seen from the Side".
The image shows a skeleton in the pose of a person leaning on a plinth. The right hand of the skeleton is over a skull. There is a hyoid bone on the top of the plinth near a corner (the hyoid bone does not articulate with another bone).
The inscription on the stone plinth reads "Vivitur ingenio, caetera mortis erunt." (Genius lives on, all else is mortal.)
