Johnson Jr. started his career competing in Baby Grand Stock Cars in 2019. After he captured multiple Baby Grand Series main event wins in 2021, Johnson Jr. made his Super Late Model debut at Mission Valley Super Oval in 2022 in a car he built alongside late model crew chief, Travis Sharpe. Johnson Jr. would go onto finish third with an additional five top-five finishes in seven late model starts that same year. He has also competed in numerous road racing series since 2021. Starting in Spec Racer Fords, Johnson Jr. captured three podium finishes in four starts at Portland International Raceway. Along with this, he built and competed in his own road course late model in which he finished third with in the Portland Rose Cup Races in the Stock Car Class in 2022. He would go on to lead the following years race but ultimately failed to finish after a rear end failure. Additionally, Johnson Jr. has raced at tracks such as Sonoma, Thunderhill Raceway Park, The Ridge Motorsports Park, and many more including wins at The Ridge in the 24 Hours of Lemons (October 2022 and May 2024) and a second-place finish at Sonoma in the NASA Series (May 2022).[1]
On December 30, 2022, it was announced that Johnson Jr. would run part-time in the ARCA Menards Series West, driving the No. 19 Chevrolet for Bill McAnally Racing, having previously being a crew member and spotter for drivers like Derek Kraus, Jesse Love, and Cole Moore.[2][3] Uniquely compared to most professional drivers, he had prepared his own cars prior to his ARCA Series West races alongside his crew chief, Chuck Jones. Johnson's first start would come at Portland International Raceway, where he would start and finish tenth.[4][5] In the next race at Sonoma Raceway, he would start eighteenth but would go on to finish 27th due to transmission issues halfway through the race.[6] He would return at Evergreen Speedway, this time running in a Toyota, where he would start fourteenth and finish eleventh,[7] and would run the next race at All American Speedway, where he would start eleventh and finish in ninth place.[8]
On January 19, 2024, it was announced that Johnson Jr. will run full-time in the West Series in 2024, driving the No. 19 for BMR.[9]
