Cyaxares (Median: ᴴuvaxšϑra;[4] Old Persian: 𐎢𐎺𐎧𐏁𐎫𐎼 ᴴuvaxštra;[5][6][7][8] Akkadian: Waksatar;[5] Old Phrygian: Ksuwaksaros;[5] Ancient Greek: Κυαξάρης, romanized: Kuaxarēs;[5] Latin: Cyaxarēs) was the third king of the Medes. Cyaxares ascended to the throne in 625 BCE, after his father Phraortes lost his life in a battle against the Assyrians.
