Carl Burgos (/ˈbɜːrɡoʊs/ BUR-gohss; born Max Finkelstein[2] /ˈfɪŋkəlstiːn/ FING-kəl-steen; April 18, 1916 – March 1984[1]) was an American comic book and advertising artist best known for creating the original Human Torch in Marvel Comics #1 (Oct. 1939), during the period historians and fans call the Golden Age of comic books.
