Bessonovsky District (Russian: Бессо́новский райо́н) is an administrative[1] and municipal[5] district (raion), one of the twenty-seven in Penza Oblast, Russia. It is located in the center of the oblast. The area of the district is 1,249 square kilometers (482 sq mi).[2] Its administrative center is the rural locality (a selo) of Bessonovka.[1] Population: 45,296 (2010 Census);[3] 41,647 (2002 Census);[7] 45,515 (1989 Soviet census).[8] The population of Bessonovka accounts for 25.2% of the district's total population.[3]
