Bayamoncito was in Spain's gazetteers[6] until Puerto Rico was ceded by Spain in the aftermath of the Spanish–American War under the terms of the Treaty of Paris of 1898 and became an unincorporated territory of the United States. In 1899, the United States Department of War conducted a census of Puerto Rico finding that the population of Bayamoncito barrio was 765.[7]
In 2001, law 1-2001 was passed[13] to identify marginalized communities of Puerto Rico.[14] In 2017, Governor Ricardo Rosselló created a new government agency to work with the Special Communities of Puerto Rico Program.[15][16] Las Parcelas in Bayamoncito is one of the 742 places on the list of Comunidades Especiales de Puerto Rico.[17]
