Basavanagudi Assembly constituency is one of the 224 constituencies in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly of Karnataka a south state of India. Basavanagudi is also part of Bangalore South Lok Sabha constituency.[2] It has also been considered as the stronghold of BJP as it has been winning the constituency with huge margin every time.[3] Congress has only won the seat once in 2004 in the span of past 45 years. The constituency is dominated by Brahmins and Vokkaligas. Middle and upper middle class people are in significant numbers and senior citizens make up almost a third of the electorate.[4]
