Altaysky District (Russian: Алта́йский райо́н; Khakas: Алтай аймағы, Altay aymağı) is an administrative[1] and municipal[4] district (raion), one of the eight in the Republic of Khakassia, Russia. It is located in the east of the republic. The area of the district is 1,736.1 square kilometers (670.3 sq mi).[2] Its administrative center is the rural locality (a selo) of Bely Yar.[1] Population: 25,559 (2010 Russian census);[3] 23,894 (2002 Census);[6] 22,237 (1989 Soviet census).[7] The population of Bely Yar accounts for 39.1% of the district's total population.[3]
