Chip flavour From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
All-dressed (French: assaisonnées[citation needed] or French: toute garnie[1]) is a potato chip flavour popular in Canada.[2] Ruffles, a major producer of all-dressed potato chips, describes the flavour as a mix of ketchup, barbecue sauce, sour cream and onion, and salt & vinegar.[3]
While consensus is that the flavour first originated in Canada, it is unknown who or which company first introduced the all-dressed potato chip. Yum Yum, a Quebec-based company, is known to have created a variety of the flavour in 1978.[4][5]
The term "all-dressed" and its French equivalent "toute garnie" originally applied to pizza, meaning roughly "everything-on-it", deluxe, or "the works".[1] The term "all-dressed" extended beyond just pizza and found its way into the world of potato chips. Many early references to the flavour "all-dressed" are linked to "all-dressed pizza flavour" potato chips.[1] These potato chips were crafted to capture the essence of a pizza with all the toppings, offering a rich, complex blend of flavours that often includes a combination of spices, herbs, cheese, and even hints of smokiness, mimicking the taste of a fully-loaded pizza.
An all-dressed chip called The Whole Shabang is produced by American prison supplier Keefe Group. It became available to the general public in 2016.[6] Frito-Lay began selling all-dressed Ruffles potato chips in the United States the same year.[7][8]
In 2019, Syracuse, New York potato chip maker Terrell's began selling all-dressed chips under the name "Syracuse style".[9][10]
Kwik Trip convenience stores sell an all-dressed flavour of chips under their Urge store brand.[11]
Hy-Vee stores sell an All Dressed flavour of chips under the Drive Time store brand.[12]
Aldi stores sell an All Dressed flavour of chips seasonally under the Clancy's store brand.[13]
In 2024, Co-op Food in the United Kingdom began selling a limited edition "All Dressed Seriously Saucy" variety crisp as part of their Irresistible range.[14]
