Funkcija

Ovaj gen kodira protein koji sadrži konzervirani signal jedarne lokalizacije. Kodirani protein može imati ulogu u spermatogenezi, kontroli ćelijskog ciklusa i u mejotskoj ćelijskoj diobi.^[6] U kvascima, kompleks Dom34-Hbs1 (s ABCE1) odgovoran je za reaktivaciju ribosoma i za oporavak onih zaglavljenih na iRNK.^[7] To je paralog faktora oslobađanja eRF1.

Homolog u rodu Drosophila prvi put je otkriven 1993. Mutanti pokazuju zaustavljanje ćeliskog ciklusa u G2/M fazi mejoze i veliki nebenkern oblik u kasnim spermatocitima.^[8] Homolozi ljudi, kvasaca (Dom34), glista i biljaka prijavljeni su 1995.,^[9] a slijedio je jedan pronađen u Archaea.^[10]
