Smješten je na ušću rijeke Cetine u Jadransko more. Omiš je poznat po dugogodišnjem Festivalu dalmatinskih klapa.
Do teritorijalne reorganizacije u Hrvatskoj nalazio se u sastavu stare općine Omiš.
Na popisu stanovništva 2021. godine, grad Omiš je imao 14.139 stanovnika, od čega u samom Omišu 5.985.
Napomena: Nastao iz stare općine Omiš. U 1991. sadrži dio podataka za općinu Dugi Rat.
Napomena: U 1991. povećano pripajanjem naselja Ravnice koje je prestalo postojati. Za to bivše naselje sadrži podatke od 1857. do 1981. U 1991. također povećano za dio područja naselja Duće (općina Dugi Rat). U 1857., 1869., 1921. i 1931. sadrži podatke za naselja Borak i Stanići.
