Xiton (qədim yunan dilində: χιτών) - qədim Yunanıstanda kişilərin və qadınların istifadə etdikləri geyim.[1] Adətən kətandan və ya yundan, daha sonralar pambıqdan və bəzən ipəkdən hazırlanırdı. Xiton müxtəlif ölçülü parçalardan ibarət idi. Xiton bədənin ətrafına sarılır, heç bir qayçı və ya iynədən istifadə olunmurdu.
Qədim Yunanıstanda xiton bir-birindən fərqlənən iki formada:dorik və ionik üslubunda hazırlanırdı. Dorik üslubunda xiton yun parçadan hazırlanırdı, sadə və qolsuz olurdu. Bədənin sol tərəfindən qatlanır və sağ çiyin üzərində bağlanırdı. Xiton elə bir şəkildə geyilirdi ki, bir tərəfində bir qat var idi, digər tərəfi açıq qalırdı. Qədim Yunanıstanda qadınlar da xiton geyirdilər. Ancaq qadınlar həmişə onları ayaq biləyinə qədər geyirdilər. Qadınlar üçün nəzərdə tutulan xitonda bədənin sağ tərəfində bud dibindən aşağı hissə açıq saxlanılırdı. İonik üslubunda xiton kətan parçadan hazırlanırdı, hər iki çiyin üzərində və ya yalnız sol çiyində dayana bilirdi, başdan bədənə keçirilirdi və çuval kimi bağlanırdı. Bu paltar incə və daha bahalı idi.
Bir çox tədqiqatçılar Xiton sözünün Qədim yunan sözü olan "χιτών" [2] sözündən götürüldüyünü və ibrani dilində "alt paltar" mənasını ifadə etdiyini bildirirlər.[3][4] Het woord is afgeleid van het Hebreeuws k'tonet(h)/kuttōnet(h)[2][3][4][5][6] Tədqiqatçıların bir hissəsi isə Xiton ifadəsinin ərəb mənbələrinə əsasən "kətan",[3][5] fransız, holland və ingilis mənbələrinə əsasən "pambıq" sözləri ilə əlaqəli olduğunu iddia edirlər.[6][7]
