Davis nació en Salt Lake City, Utah. Asistió a la secundaria Woods Cross High School, y la Universidá d'Utah.

Davis ye conocíu pol so papel de Alaric Saltzman en The Vampire Diaries, onde interpreta a un profesor d'historia que busca vengación contra los vampiros nes primeres temporaes, y nes más recién ye amigu de los mesmos.
