Criada na so ciudá natal, protagonizó delles películes de Hollywood na década de 1930, siendo una de les 15 moces escoyíes como WAMPAS Baby Stars, gallardón qu'estremaba a les moces más prometedores na industria cinematográfica, en 1932.
El so primer papel importante dar na película College Humor (1933) xunto a Bing Crosby. La pareya participó n'otros dos producciones, Double or Nothing (1937) y Doctor Rhythm (1938).[5] Carlisle retirar de la industria cinematográfica en 1942, siendo Dead Men Walk (1943) el so creitu final nel cine.[5]
El 8 de febreru de 1960 l'actriz recibió una estrella nel Paséu de la Fama de Hollywood, en 6679 Hollywood Boulevard.[6]
Tres les muertes de Dorothy Layton (2009), Gloria Stuart (2010) y Barbara Kent (2011), Carlisle foi la postrera de les WAMPAS Baby Stars en finar, rexistrándose la so muerte'l 1 d'agostu de 2018 a los 104 años.[4][7]
