El mar de Halmahera (n'indonesiu, Laut Halmahera) ye un pequeñu mar del océanu Pacíficu alcontráu nel interior del archipiélagu indonesiu, nomáu asina pola islla de Halmahera, que les sos agües pertenecen a Indonesia.

El mar de Halmahera tien como llendes:

al norte, les islles de Halmahera y Kacepi y el mesmu océanu Pacíficu;
al sur, les islles de Kofiau y de Torobi y les islles Boo y el mar de Ceram;
al oeste, les islles de Halmahera y Obi Mayor y el mar de Moluques;
al este, l'archipiélagu de les islles Raja Ampat qu'inclúi les islles de Waigeo y Batanta, l'estrechu de Dampier (que lo comunica col océanu Pacíficu) y la islla de Salawati.

Entiende alredor de 95.000 km² y la so topografía entiende una serie de cuenques separaes y cordales, la principal d'elles ye la cuenca del Halmahera, que llega a una fondura de 2039 m.^[1]

La máxima autoridá internacional en materia de delimitación de mares a efeutos de navegación marítima, la Organización Hidrográfica Internacional («International Hydrographic Organization, IHO), considera'l mar de Halmahera como un mar. Na so publicación de referencia mundial, Limits of oceans and seas (Llendes d'océanos y mares, 3ª edición de 1953), asígna-y el númberu d'identificación 48y, dientro del archipiélagu de les Indies Oriental y definir de la forma siguiente:

Nel norte.
Una llinia dende Wajaboela (Morotai) hasta Tg. Djodjefa, el puntu Norte de Halmahera.
Nel este.
Una llinia de Tg. Gorango, el puntu nororiental de la islla de Morotai, al traviés de les islles Sajang y Kawé hasta los estremos occidentales de les de Waigeo y Batanta, al traviés del puntu noroeste de la islla Samawati, baxando pola mariña a Tg. Menonket, el so puntu Suroeste, y dende ellí a Tg. Sele, Nueva Guinea (1º26'S, 130º56').
Nel sur.
El llende norte del mar de Ceram ente Obi Mayor y Nueva Guinea [Una llinia dende... Obi Mayor ... Tanjong Seranmaloleo, el so estremu oriental, y dende ellí al traviés de les islles Tobalai, Kekek, Pisang y Kofiau hasta Tanjong Sele (1º26'S, 130º55'Y), l'estremu occidental de Nueva Guinea].
Nel oeste.
El llende sur del mar de Moluques ente Halmahera y Obi Mayor [Una llinia dende l'estremu sur de Halmahera hasta la punta norte de la islla Bisa (Setile) y dende ellí hasta l'estremu norte de Obi Mayor]..
