Dent actuó en cine y televisión a principios de la década de 1990. El so primer llargumetraxe foi la película de 1994 Nobody's Fool. En televisión, interpretó a Janice Talbert en One Life to Live y apaeció como convidada en dellos programes de televisión, como The Pretender, The X Files, The Invisible Man, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, The Sopranos, Frasier, Grey's Anatomy, NCIS y The Mentalist.[2]
El so papel decisivu llegó en 2002 como la oficial Danielle "Danny" Sofer nel drama de FX The Shield. Nel cine actuó en Replicant (2001), The Majestic (2001) y 21 Grams (2003).[2]
