Vasyl Mykhailovych Ivanchuk[lower-alpha 1] (Ukrainian: Василь Михайлович Іванчук; born March 18, 1969), is a Ukrainian chess grandmaster. He was awarded the title of Grandmaster by FIDE in 1988. A leading chess player since 1988,[1] Ivanchuk has been ranked at No. 2 on the FIDE world rankings three times (July 1991, July 1992, October 2007).[2]
In this name that follows Eastern Slavic naming customs, the patronymic is Mykhailovych and the family name is Ivanchuk.
