My ProfileThe term "Abortion Debate" refers to the internationally contested societal struggle over the moral, legal and Constitutional aspects of abortion. The debate is predominately composed of competing perspectives expressed by the (self described) groups involved; The "pro-choice" movement (emphasizing the right of women to choose for themselves whether or not to bring a pregnancy to term) and the "pro-life" movement (emphasizing personhood and the right to life of developing children in the womb). The labels preferred by both groups are considered to be loaded terms by the general media where terms such as "abortion rights" or "anti-abortion" are preferred.[1] With little common ground between them, each movement works to influence public opinion and to attain legal support for their respective positions. Historically, extremists activists on both sides have resorted to acts of violence in an effort to further their cause.
