Stanisław Kania (Polish pronunciation: [staˈɲiswaf ˈkaɲa]; 8 March 1927 – 3 March 2020)[1] was a Polish communist politician who served as the de facto leader of the Polish People's Republic as First Secretary of the ruling Polish United Workers' Party (PZPR) between September 1980 and October 1981.
