Shchyokinsky District

Shchyokinsky District (Russian: Щёкинский райо́н, Çjokinskij rajón) is an administrative district (raion), one of the twenty-three in Tula Oblast, Russia.[1] Within the framework of municipal divisions, it is incorporated as Shchyokinsky Municipal District.[5] It is located in the center of the oblast. The area of the district is 1,393.4 square kilometers (538.0 sq mi).[2] Its administrative center is the town of Shchyokino.[1] Population: 106,595 (2010 Census);[3] 43,064 (2002 Census);[8] 48,434 (1989 Soviet census).[9] The population of the administrative center accounts for 54.5% of the district's total population.[3]
