Madonna De Surdis
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Madonna De Surdis is a silver-gilt altarpiece from the 1380s. Though the artist remains unknown, it is believed to have been created in a Venetian workshop.[1] The piece was commissioned by Giovanni De Surdis, the former bishop of Vicenza. A will from 1383, discovered in Verona, belonging to Bishop Giovanni De Surdis, indicates that 50 gold ducats were allocated for the creation of a Madonna statue to be placed on the altar of Santa Maria in the Vicenza Cathedral.[2] The statue is now at the Museo Diocesano in Vicenza.[3]
