The town was established as a coal town in 1907 alongside the nearby camps of Crosby and Gebo.[5]
The population was 76 at the 2020 census. The town is home to Wyoming Whiskey, the state's first whiskey distillery, and was the only one in the state until 2017. Wyoming Whiskey began production in 2009 in a facility constructed by the General Steel Corporation.[6][7]
