Jordan Mark Schmidt was born in Duluth, Minnesota.[1] Both of Schmidt's parents were local musicians living in Duluth. Early on, he developed a passion for music and began playing guitar at the age of ten. While in high school, he also started recording and mixing musicians from the area.
Following high school graduation, he honed his engineering and mixing skills in Maryland with producer Matt Squire.[2] In 2006, he decided to call Minneapolis, Minnesota, home. He used his skills to mix and produce local musicians, including his older brother, singer-songwriter Dane Schmidt.
In 2012, his brother persuaded him to move to Nashville, Tennessee. He entered into a publishing agreement with Tree Vibez Music in 2015 and devoted himself entirely to writing songs.[3] Schmidt penned his first song to climb to the top of the charts with the 2016 release of Country rock hit Lights Come On, recorded by Jason Aldean.[4] The song was awarded RIAA Gold certification on January 31, 2017.[5]
As a writer or co-writer, he has added eight more number-one hits since that milestone. He lives in Nashville with his wife, country singer Renee Blair, and their son.
