Noviodunum (castra)

Noviodunum, known also as Noviodunum ad Istrum, was a fort, city and a port in the Roman province of Moesia located on the lower Danube near the present town of Isaccea. From 46 AD the fort was part of the Moesian Limes frontier defensive system on the Danube. It was the headquarters of the Roman Danube fleet (Classis Flavia Moesica) and the headquarters of the Legio I Iovia (Scythica)[3] from the 4th century AD.[4]
