The Canaan Dog is the oldest[3] breed of pariah dog still existing and abundant across the Middle East.[1][2] It can be found in Jordan, Israel, Lebanon, Palestine,[4] and the Sinai Peninsula and these, or dogs nearly identical, were also found in Syria[5][6] over 9,000 years ago.[3] It is the national dog of Israel.[7] As of 2012, there were 2,000 to 3,000 Canaan Dogs across the world.[8]
