穆氏象鳥屬

穆氏象鳥屬（學名：Mullerornis），又稱穆勒象鳥屬，為生存於馬達加斯加的象鳥之一，目前已滅絕。

分類學

穆氏象鳥屬的學名源自於法國探險家喬治·穆勒，他在1892年時在馬達加斯加遭到當地的薩卡拉瓦人殺害。

描述

穆氏象鳥的體型較象鳥還來得小許多^[3][4]。一段可能屬於穆氏象鳥的骨頭經放射性碳定年法分析後，推估該個體約死於距今1,260年^[5]，這代表穆氏象鳥可能一直直到1千紀末才滅絕^[6]。2018年，翰斯福與特維認為小象鳥（Aepyornis modestus）其實是穆氏象鳥屬所有物種的首異名，也因此原先屬於穆氏象鳥屬的所有物種均變為次異名，穆氏象鳥屬下目前僅具有一有效種－小穆氏象鳥（Mullerornis modestus）^[7]。

古生物學

夜行性

與其他象鳥科物種及牠們現存的近親鷸鴕一樣，穆氏象鳥也是屬於夜行性，但牠們的枕葉退化程度較其他演化支小，顯示穆氏象鳥可能更偏向於黃昏時活動（英语：Crepuscular_animal）^[8]。
