1947年，布鲁克斯出生在美国加利福尼亚州比佛利山。母亲塞尔玛·利兹是一名歌手和演员，父亲哈利·爱因斯坦是一名无线电台的喜剧演员。^[1]他的兄弟鲍勃·爱因斯坦是一名喜剧演员，他的堂兄弟查尔斯·爱因斯坦是一名作家。^[2]布鲁克斯的祖父从奥地利移民到了俄罗斯，他的父母则移民到了南加州，他成长在一个商人家庭。^[3]
