繼承自中古英語 adornen、adournen,源自拉丁語 adōrnāre,adōrnō 的現在主動不定式;源自 ad + ōrnō (“裝飾,修飾”)。參見 adore、ornate。代替了借自古法語 aorner 的中古英語 aournen (“裝飾”),其亦來自同一拉丁語詞彙。
