初為迦勒底人首領，在埃蘭的支持下成為巴比倫國王。亞述國王薩爾貢二世曾將其兩次擊敗，並使他逃亡埃蘭。約7年之後，他在埃蘭與巴比倫尼亞的阿拉米亞支持下，再次成為巴比倫國王。但不久又被亞述國王辛那赫里布打敗並再次流亡。約3年後，他又一次發動反抗亞述的戰爭並在失敗後乘船逃離，隨身還帶著神像，最終他於放逐中死去。
