沿革
明洪武十五年(1382年)置楚雄衛指揮使司，設指揮使2人，指揮同知3人，指揮僉事 11人。轄經歷司，設經歷，知事各1人。在楚雄府治東，屯田74,372餘畝。[1][2]
明洪武二十年(1387年)設中守御所(定額1120人)，隸屬楚雄衛，駐地在今楚雄城南。[3]
清康熙七年(公元1668年)裁撤。[4]
