坦尚尼亞位於非洲東部、赤道以南。北與肯雅和烏干達交界，南與尚比亞、馬拉威、莫三比克接壤，西與盧安達、蒲隆地和民主剛果為鄰，東瀕印度洋。大陸海岸線長840公里。東部沿海地區和內陸部分低地屬熱帶草原氣候，西部內陸高原屬熱帶山地氣候。大部分地區平均氣溫21—25℃。尚吉巴的20多個島嶼屬熱帶海洋性氣候，終年濕熱，年平均氣溫26℃。
