觀測歷史

發現

赫特福德大學的菲利普·盧卡斯於2010年宣布發現了這個天體。發現它的那張照片是2006年11月28日由英國紅外望遠鏡紅外深空巡天（英語：UKIRT Infrared Deep Sky Survey）（UKIDSS）拍攝的。研究者在2010年3月2日復原的圖像確認了它的自行。^[1]文獻報道的距離是根據它目前測得的視差為246毫秒測得的。這個天體最初被認為距離更近，只有2.9秒差距，如果屬實的話這將是距離太陽最近的十顆恆星之一。^[7]不過後來的測量發現它離地球的距離實際上要遠一些，大約是4.1+0.6
−0.5秒差距。^[1]

自適應光學觀測

2010年，布伊（Bouy）等人使用甚大望遠鏡通過自適應光學技術來觀測UGPS 0722-05。結果沒有觀測到任何星等H ≲ 19.4並且相距超過50角分的伴星，也沒有星等H ≲ 21.4並且相距超過100角分的伴星。^[8]

光譜分類

2010年，盧卡斯等人暫時將UGPS 0722-05的光譜分類設定為T10，並提出這可能是一種新光譜分類的首個實例。^[1]

2011年庫欣（Cushing）等人發表的論文提出了T型光譜和新提出的Y型光譜之間的區別，其中後者體現了光譜中與氨相關的特徵。他們引入了T/Y轉變的光譜特徵標準——如何區分T9和Y0。UGPS 0722-05被重新分類為T9，並被宣布為T9型光譜的標準。^[2]

距離

目前對UGPS 0722-05距離最精確的估計是由萊格特（Leggett）等人通過三角視差法獲得的：0.2428 ± 0.0024 角秒，對應的距離為4.12 ± 0.04 pc或者13.43 ± 0.13 ly。^[3]

空間運動

UGPS 0722-05的自行大約為每年970毫角秒。^[3]

博昌斯基（Bochanski）等人於2011年發表了UGPS 0722-05的徑向速度測量結果——46.9 ± 2.5 km/s。^{[4][注 1]}

特性

這個天體的體積與木星相當，但是質量是木星質量的5–40倍。^[1]這使得它的質量小於印第安座ε星Ba。行星的質量小於13倍木星質量。紅外光譜表明它含有水蒸氣和甲烷，表面溫度大約為480–560 K。^[1]

注釋

1. 徑向速度為正值表示UGPS 0722-05目前正離我們遠去。它的徑向速度（46.9 km/s）明顯大於切向速度（19 km/s）表示它過去曾離我們相當近（對自行和視差的假設來自Leggett et al. (2012)，太陽系距離UGPS 0722-05最近為5.0光年，發生在大約公元前72000年，當時可能是距離最近的恆星之一。
