歷史
該學院可以追溯到14世紀的倫敦市外科醫生行會（Guild of Surgeons Within the City of London） [2][3]。1540年，亨利八世將外科理髮師同業公會（Worshipful Company of Barbers；1462年建立）和外科醫生行會合併，組成理髮師-外科醫生行會（Company of Barber-Surgeons）。 1745年，外科醫生獨立出來成立了外科醫生行會（Company of Surgeons） [4]。1800年，行會獲得皇家特許狀，成為倫敦皇家外科醫學院（Royal College of Surgeons in London）[4]。1843年的另一份特許狀授予它現在的英格蘭皇家外科學醫院稱號[4]。
亨特博物館
1799年，政府購買了約翰·亨特的藏品，並將其贈送給學院。亨特博物館（Hunterian Museum）在此基礎上建立，現為倫敦健康與醫學博物館集團成員，博物館展示了數以千計的解剖標本，包括「愛爾蘭巨人」查爾斯·伯恩的骨架。[5][6]
