生平
1913年，邁徹出生在美國加利福尼亞州聖地牙哥縣，他的父親馬塞羅·格林多·邁徹，是一個義大利人；[1][2] 他的母親克拉拉是一個瑞士人；[3] 邁徹的一個哥哥馬塞勒斯·保羅，在1918年死於骨髓炎。[4] 邁徹早年在教會學校就讀，後來考入肯塔基州軍事學院，大學畢業後，他到加利福尼亞州開了一家餐館。
