经历
高知县高冈郡佐川町出身，私立土佐高校毕业，武藏野美术大学商业设计科肄业。1968年以《山贼の呗が闻こえる》出道[1]。
1987年获第18届讲谈社出版文化赏插画赏，1997年以《新选组》获第43届文艺春秋漫画赏，1998年以《坂本龙马》获第2届日本文化厅媒体艺术祭漫画部门大赏，2002年以《赤兵卫》获第47届小学馆漫画赏审查委员特别赏[1]。
笔名
黑铁弘之名源自其老家司牡丹酒造的屋号“黑金屋”[1]。
