萧拜住的曾祖父萧丑奴偕弟萧老瓦归降成吉思汗，家族世为宿卫，其祖父萧青山，父亲萧哈剌帖木儿。萧拜住从元成宗北征，任檀州知州。元武宗时，被太子爱育黎拔力八达所赏识。入朝为礼部郎中，历任户部尚书、御史中丞、中书省平章政事。和杨朵儿只揭发弹劾权臣铁木迭儿。延祐七年（1320年），元仁宗去世，铁木迭儿将诬陷他处死，元泰定帝时，为萧拜住昭雪。
