通政是枪术能手，与擅长内政的父亲相反。信长对于通政有深厚信任，曾参与姐川之战和长岛一向一揆等多场战役。
天正元年（1573年）长岛一向一揆中，因讲和成立而开始撤退的织田军遭受一揆众奇袭，通政担任殿军掩护，战死。
