谒者是中国古代官名。
春秋、战国时代,谒者是国君用来传达命令的近侍[1]。汉代的郎中令的下属有谒者,“掌宾赞受事,员七十人,秩比六百石”,汉武帝游宴后庭,公卿不得入,遂改尚书令为“中书谒者令”[2],以宦者执掌文书,简称中书令,司马迁受腐刑后,曾任此官;汉成帝建始四年改“中书谒者令”为“中谒者令”;东汉时谒者人数减半,以“谒者仆射”为主官。南朝梁、陈与北齐置有“谒者台”[3]。隋朝有“谒者大夫”一职称,下设司朝谒者、通事谒者、将事谒者、谒者等,炀帝复置谒者台,与司隶台、御史台合称三台。唐代无谒者,但以“通事舍人”代谒者之职务。
