1884年，大卫·库帕尔·汤姆森接管了查尔斯亚历山大公司（邓迪信使报及阿古斯的印刷公司）的出版业务后，在1905年创辨了以自己命名的DC汤姆森公司。他是一名保守主义者，拒绝雇用天主教员工[2]。
DC汤姆森每年发行超过200万份漫画、杂志和报纸等出版刊物。2009年，DC汤姆森收购了杂志出版商今日英格兰出版（This England Publishing）和以2560万镑收购了网站Friends Reunited，后者在2016年2月关闭[3]。
