历史
WDS的数据库架构承袭自立克天文台的Jeffers和van den Bos于1963年发布的目视双星索引星表的架构，于1965年，在Charles Worley的倡议下，它被转移至美国海军天文台[1]。通过大量的测量，从伊巴谷和第谷、斑点干涉仪，和其他的来源，增加了许多的资料[2]。
