強戰龍化石僅發現於詹姆斯羅斯島(南極半島東北邊緣詹姆斯羅斯島群(英語:James Ross Island group)的一座島)雪丘島組蘭布角段。雪丘島組是南極僅有的兩處主要含恐龍巖層之一,這片大陸上所有被命名的恐龍中,僅有兩種不是出自該地層。[12]其植物組成、生境及氣候類似現代火山弧。[13]在強戰龍生存的時期,地球氣候比現在溫暖潮濕得多,南極也沒有冰,生境則以針葉林、蘇鐵及銀杏為主導。但當時棲息在南極的動物,冬天仍要忍受長時間的黑暗,就像今天的南極洲一樣。[4]
