媽媽在嬰兒出生後進行處理，每天自行將乳頭拉出幾次，先用泵浦或是塑膠針頭將乳頭拉出，然後讓嬰兒放到乳房前面。 乳房腫脹（英语：Breast engorgement）（Breast engorgement）是指女性分娩後36小時內，會出現的充血情形。一般來說，會感覺乳房很沈重，但不會有痛覺。依嬰兒的需要餵母乳是避免乳房腫脹疼痛的主要方式。
