Sideshow （不同于此后推出的正式产品Windows Sideshow）。在研发阶段，这个产品在微软员工内部使用。小工具最早在开发代号为“Longhorn”的Windows Vista测试版本中使用，首次被引入是在2002年9月。有趣的是Windows边栏原意設計來取代Windows

Windows Vista

Maker、Windows传真和扫描、Windows会议空间、Windows Mobile设备中心、Windows语音识别、Windows传真和扫描、Windows Sideshow（英语：Windows Sideshow）、Games Explorer等一系列新组件。Vista还使用了點對點技術提升计算机系統在家庭網路中的通信能力。

PC、網路投影機、觸摸螢幕等裝置。此外亦有透過Windows SideShow的輔助顯示，以及一個可計劃備份的實用程式。家用進階版除了個別家庭使用外，亦可支援10個並連的中小企業點對點網路連接形成伺服器訊息區塊。該版本的Windows會議空間也允許使用戶互相交流，但只能有一個能夠查看會議。

桌面邊欄小工具（Gadgets for Windows Sidebar）網站應用小工具（Gadgets for Start.com）可分離式設備小工具（Gadgets for Windows SideShow）這些小工具合稱Microsoft
