漢武帝時，韓義任燕王劉旦郎中。漢武帝死後，漢昭帝年幼即位，始元元年（前86年），劉旦聯合齊孝王之孫劉澤作亂，劉旦在燕國招募各郡的地痞，打造武器，不斷擴大閱兵。韓義等人切諫，劉旦殺死韓義等十五人。後來魏相說韓義義無比干之親而蹈比干之節，大將軍霍光用魏相的建議，擢升韓義的兒子韓延壽為諫大夫。
