托馬斯·安德魯·奈特

托馬斯·安德魯·奈特 FRS（Thomas Andrew Knight 1759年8月12日—1838年5月11日）是一名英格蘭園藝家、植物學家，1811年至1838年間任倫敦園藝學會（皇家園藝學會的前身）的首任會長，曾獲科普利獎章。

生平

他出生於赫里福德郡沃姆斯利格蘭治（Wormsley Grange），父親是一名牧師，他的長兄理查德·佩恩·奈特是一名藝術品收藏家，一生未婚，他從長兄那裏繼承了克羅夫特城堡和唐頓城堡。他曾就讀於牛津大學貝利奧爾學院，畢業後從事園藝工作^[2]，用繼承來的土地培育各種植物並進行實驗。通過對豌豆的研究，他發現了很多與孟德爾一致的結論，但沒能尋根溯源^[3]。經過約瑟夫·班克斯推薦，他在1811年至1838年間任皇家園藝學會第二任會長。

1838年，奈特去世，葬在故鄉的聖瑪麗教堂中^[4]，墓碑現在是二級登錄建築^[5]。
