元代改寧西軍置廣安府，屬四川省順慶路，治所在渠江縣。明朝洪武四年（1371年）降為州，歸屬順慶府，洪武十年（1377年）五月，以州治渠江縣省入。下領四縣：岳池縣、渠縣、鄰水縣、大竹縣。清代因之，判詞：繁[2]。民國初年，全國廢府州廳改縣，改廣安縣。
