壯年兵（Principes，單數：Princeps），羅馬共和國早期兵種，最初為矛兵，後改為劍兵。成為壯年兵的人都是家境富裕的壯年男子，他們負擔得起優良的裝備（一面大盾與一身優良的裝甲）。他們在軍中，擔當重步兵的角色。在作戰的時候，壯年兵會組成龜甲陣，在輕步兵的支援下於第二列戰線和敵人戰鬥。壯年兵在馬略改革後消失。
