司馬防六子，晉宣帝司馬懿四弟。司馬進在曹魏任中郎，司馬進長兄司馬朗，字伯達、次兄宣帝司馬懿，字仲達、三兄司馬孚字，叔達、四兄司馬馗，字季達、五兄司馬恂，字顯達、大弟司馬通，字雅達、二弟司馬敏，字幼達。都在當時知名，加上兄弟之間的表字都有個達字，故號稱「八達」。西晉建立之前去世。
